Virginia Crawford Pierrepont is a portrait and landscape artist living and working on Long Island, New York. The artist was born Virginia Lake Crawford in New York City and has been an artist all her life. She received her BFA in painting and printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1981. In 1985 she accepted a summer artist in residence program from Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, where she painted and learned the art of Fresco Murals. She established Virginia Designs in 1987, with a studio at 285 West Broadway and Canal, painting Trompe Loeil murals and landscape paintings. She painted and showed throughout NYC for ten years before moving to Long Island with her family. Virginia’s love of the outdoors lead her to Plein Air landscape painting. There she explores a colorist palette and strong chiaroscuro light. Infused with an energy that seems almost metaphoric of personal struggle. Her Portraits also have a colorful energy and a keen eye for detail, whichs she paints from her Portrait Studio in Glen Head, New York. Virginia is currently enrolled at Johnson State College’s MFA program, continuing her artistic venues in studio arts through the Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, Vermont.

For Virginia painting is a diary, a record how she feels and reacts to her environment. She expresses a spectrum of emotions as well as intellectual processes in her canvases. The idea of working in plein air gives a more immediate connection to these feelings and thoughts. She currently is represented by M55 Gallery in Long Island City.
